Veneers are restorations that enhance your smile by giving you attractive, uniform teeth much quicker than braces. They can effectively conceal your teeth' imperfections and give you a flawless smile. At De Lucs Dental, LLC, we use these restorations to help you quickly achieve a beautiful smile.
Porcelain veneers are thin pieces of laminates that are placed on natural teeth. These veneers are used cosmetically and can alter the size, shape, and color of the tooth. Porcelain material has a translucence property and imitates the natural appearance of a tooth.
Porcelain veneers offer several benefits, including:
The placement of porcelain veneers will require two office visits.
During your first appointment, Dr. Gary Lucombe will examine your teeth to ensure porcelain veneers will be an appropriate solution for your condition. You may also take an active role in designing and discussing your porcelain veneers.
Next, the teeth receiving the veneers are lightly roughened to prepare the surface for maximum adherence. The teeth are reduced by approximately 0.5mm during this process, and an impression of the tooth is taken. These impressions are sent over to our dental lab for the fabrication of your customized veneers. If you are uncomfortable with the appearance of your natural teeth after preparation, a temporary veneer can be placed.
We will test the permanent veneers on your teeth during the subsequent appointment to determine that they match perfectly with your existing teeth. Once everything is finalized, the veneer is bonded to the tooth using dental adhesives. A curing light is employed to quickly harden the cement and give you a beautiful, long-lasting new smile.
The veneers should be taken care of similar to your natural teeth. It would be best if you continued to brush and floss regularly and undertake routine dental check-ups. Try to avoid sticky foods such as caramel apples or toffee. We recommend non-abrasive toothpaste.
Sensitivity to hot and cold foods may occur after the placement of veneers due to the reduction of enamel. This should subside in one to two weeks. If sensitivity continues, visit our office. With efficient oral hygiene and care, your porcelain veneers will last for years.
