Cleanings and Exams

Cleanings at our Silver Spring, MD dental practice are different but just as important as the daily measures you take to maintain good oral health. During a cleaning at our office, we will remove plaque and calculus to help prevent periodontal (gum) disease, and will then polish your teeth for a beautiful, healthy look.

Exams, which are also performed during your normal checkups at our office, will include a review of your dental X-rays, an oral cancer screening, an evaluation for tooth decay and gum disease, and an examination of your current dental restorations, such as crowns or fillings. We invite you to contact our office to schedule your next checkup with Dr. Lucombe!

Digital X-rays

Included in your prevention plan at our office is having dental X-rays of your teeth taken. Our Silver Spring, MD dental practice is equipped with digital radiography, the latest in dental X-ray technology, to enhance your experience at our office. Using phosphor plates and PANX/CBCT, the digital X-ray machines will both capture and store images of your teeth.

Many patients find that having a digital X-ray taken is a much faster and more comfortable process than having a traditional X-ray taken. Digital X-rays also emit far less radiation than traditional X-rays, ensuring your safety every time you visit our office. In addition, we have the ability to view the digital images taken by the digital X-ray machine instantly, so we can detect any problems faster than ever. To learn more about digital X-rays, please don’t hesitate to contact our office today.

Fluoride Treatment

To help your teeth remain healthy and strong, we use fluoride at our Silver Spring, MD dental practice. Fluoride, a natural mineral found in most water and foods, has been shown to fight and reverse tooth decay. Recently, studies have also show that the topical fluoride found in toothpastes, in-practice treatments, and mouth rinses is just as important to fighting tooth decay as it is in developing and strengthening the teeth.

To learn more about how the fluoride treatments we use in our office can improve your oral health and help prevent and stop tooth decay, we invite you to give our office a call.

Oral Cancer Screenings

To help protect you, we provide oral cancer screenings during every normal checkup at our Silver Spring, MD dental practice. During this screening, your face, neck, and oral cavity will be examined for any symptoms or signs of oral cancer. We provide these oral cancer screenings during every appointment in order to catch the cancer earlier, when it is most easily treated. To learn more about the preventive measures we take to improve and maintain good oral health, please feel free to contact our office today.

Scaling and Root Planing

Our Silver Spring, MD dental office offers scaling and root planing, two non-surgical, deep cleaning procedures, to ensure that all of our patients remain healthy, safe, and free from periodontal (gum) disease and gingivitis. During the scaling procedure, tartar will be removed from the surface of the tooth. During a root planing, the surfaces of your tooth’s root will be smoothed and any infected tooth structure will be removed. For more information on these deep cleaning procedures, feel free to contact our office.

To help prevent tooth decay, we recommend having dental sealants placed on the back molars when those teeth erupt. A sealant is a tooth-colored or clear plastic material that Dr. Lucombe applies to the chewing surfaces of these back teeth, where tooth decay occurs most often. By covering the pits and grooves of these chewing surfaces, the sealant will create a barrier that seals out decay-causing germs and food.
